Services We Offer in Palo Alto

Residential Moving

Our residential movers in Palo Alto handle everything from studio apartments to five-bedroom houses. We pad and wrap furniture before it leaves the room, and we reassemble beds, tables, and shelving at the other end.

Local Moving

Local moving covers moves within Palo Alto and short runs to nearby Peninsula cities. We arrive with the padding, straps, and dollies the job needs, so you don’t have to source equipment separately.

Commercial Moving

Commercial movers in Palo Alto handle office moves from small suites to full floors. We move desks, conference tables, server racks, and file cabinets, and we work around your hours so the office is running the next morning.

Packing Services

Our packing service covers whole homes or just the rooms you would rather not do yourself, usually the kitchen and the wardrobes. We bring the boxes, paper, and wrap, and we label by room so unpacking follows the floor plan.

White Glove Delivery

White glove moving is for pieces that need placement rather than delivery: designer furniture, large art, high-end appliances. We pad, carry, place to the inch, and remove the debris.

Home Staging

Home staging logistics for agents and designers preparing Palo Alto properties for sale. That covers floor protection, furniture placement to a plan, and removal once the property closes.

Receiving and FFE Installation

Receiving services and FFE installation let designers and builders hold and inspect furnishings before they reach the site. We inventory each item, report damage ahead of installation day, and assemble on delivery.

Senior Moving

Our senior movers handle moves into smaller Palo Alto homes and into care communities. We help sort and pack in the days before, so the move itself takes less time.

Long Distance Moving

Long-distance moving out of Palo Alto covers state-to-state and cross-country moves. Your shipment travels on a dedicated truck with a set delivery window rather than being combined with other households.

What Palo Alto Movers Run Into on Move Day

Reserving Curb Space for the Truck

Palo Alto has no separate moving van permit. Curb space is reserved under the city’s special parking permit for moving property, issued by the chief transportation official when no off-street spot is reasonably available near the address, under Palo Alto Municipal Code 10.40.045. Apply ahead of your date if you are loading from a metered block downtown or from a residential permit parking street, where the posted time limits otherwise apply to the truck as well.

Buildings Here Top Out at Four Stories

Palo Alto has capped new buildings at 50 feet since the early 1970s, which leaves most apartment buildings in the city at four stories or fewer. Stair carries are therefore more common here than freight elevator bookings. Exceptions include taller downtown buildings, such as the 15-story office building at 525 University Avenue and the 11-story Channing House, where the job turns on a reserved elevator window rather than stairs.

Moving Into Palo Alto's Older Blocks and Eichler Tracts

Professorville and the Blocks Near Downtown

Professorville is a National Register historic district of homes built from 1895 onward, running roughly between Addison Avenue, Embarcadero Road, Emerson Street, and Cowper Street. The housing is Craftsman and Colonial Revival, which means narrow staircases, tight landings, and doorways that were never sized for a modern sectional. We measure the stair turn before the date and disassemble or hoist where a piece will not make the corner.

The Eichler Tracts in South Palo Alto

More than 2,700 Eichler homes were built in Palo Alto between the 1950s and the 1970s, concentrated in the southern tracts: Greenmeadow, Green Gables, Fairmeadow, Royal Manor, Los Arboles, and Greer Park North. These are single-story houses, so there are no stairs, but floor-to-ceiling glass and open atriums leave far less solid wall to pivot a piece against. The carry is short, and the risk is the glazing, so we pad the openings before anything moves through them.

Flag Lots and Long Driveways

Palo Alto has several flag lots, in Professorville and in the Community Center Eichlers around Greenwood Avenue and Harriet Street, where the house sits behind another property at the end of a long driveway. A full-size truck often cannot reach the door at these addresses. We park at the street and shuttle instead, which adds carry time to the job, so tell us at the quote stage if your address is set back.

The Best Packing Materials to Use When Moving

Timing a Move Around the Stanford Calendar

Stanford sets the busiest moving weeks in Palo Alto. For the 2026-27 year, new undergraduates arrive on September 15, returning students on September 17, and autumn quarter instruction begins September 22. Graduate students and postdocs taking apartments off campus move in the two weeks before that, and those are the days when trucks, elevator windows, and curb space nearest campus are hardest to get. Housing closes on December 12 for winter break, which creates a second and smaller peak. If your date falls in early or mid-September, book several weeks out.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving in Palo Alto

Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Palo Alto?

Yes, if you are loading from a metered space or a residential permit parking block and cannot use a driveway. Palo Alto issues a special parking permit for moving property under Municipal Code 10.40.045, granted when no off-street option is reasonably available near the address. Apply through the city ahead of your moving date.

When is the busiest time to move in Palo Alto?

Mid-September, around Stanford move-in. New undergraduates arrive September 15, 2026, and autumn quarter begins September 22, and the surrounding weeks are the hardest of the year to book.

Can a full-size moving truck reach my house in Palo Alto?

Usually yes, except for flag lots and long shared driveways. Homes set behind another property are served by shuttling from the street, which adds carry time and should be flagged when you request your quote.

Do Palo Alto apartment buildings require a certificate of insurance?

Ask your building manager, because it varies building to building. Most apartment buildings in Palo Alto are four stories or fewer under the city’s 50-foot height limit, so many moves here are stair carries with no building paperwork. Where a certificate is required, send us the building’s requirements before your date.

Do you move homes in the Eichler neighborhoods?

Yes. We work the southern Palo Alto tracts, including Greenmeadow, Fairmeadow, Green Gables, and Royal Manor. These moves are single-story with short carries, and we pad the glass walls and atrium openings before moving anything through them.
