FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of moves do you handle?

Residential moves (studios up to 20,000 sq ft estates), local, long-distance, and commercial and office moves. We also offer packing, white glove delivery, senior moves, home staging, and receiving plus FF&E installation for interior designers. We serve the SF Bay Area and Tucson, Arizona.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Clutch is fully licensed and insured, with CA license T019689 and USDOT 3046942. Our crews are background-checked employees, never day laborers. We can issue a Certificate of Insurance (COI) to your building or HOA on request.

What happens if my belongings are damaged?

Every move includes Basic Valuation Protection at no extra cost, which covers $0.60 per pound per item. For more coverage, you can add Full Value Protection when you book. Before we start, the crew walks through your home with you and documents the condition of high-value items. If something is damaged, file a claim through the “File a Claim” form on our website with photos and item details. Our team will follow up to resolve it.

Is a deposit required?

Yes. A deposit secures your date, and your move is finalized once it’s paid. Same-day moves are paid in full at booking. You can also pay over time through our Wisetack financing, available for moves from $500 to $25,000.

Do you charge a flat or hourly rate?

Both. Most local moves are hourly, and we charge only for the time the crew actually works. Flat-rate (binding) quotes are available too. A flat rate covers the truck, fuel, labor, and tools. Packing materials and Full Value Protection are itemized separately. Either way, you get a signed written estimate before we book.

How much should I tip my movers?

Tipping is never required, but it’s always appreciated.

Can I arrange a move without me being there?

Yes. Just name a point of contact for moving day and give us their phone number. They’ll do the start and end walkthroughs with the crew and sign the paperwork. The day before, we’ll call to confirm who that person is.

What does Clutch Moving not move?

Firearms and ammunition, animals, drugs, and high-value items worth more than $100 per pound, such as jewelry, high-end electronics, and fine art. We recommend you carry those yourself. We don’t move liquids unless you sign a liability release.

What happens if I need to reschedule?

You can reschedule or cancel for free with at least 48 hours’ notice before your move date. Changes made within 48 hours count as a cancellation, and the deposit is non-refundable. A same-day reschedule also counts as a cancellation.
